The City of Dreams and Shangri-La Mactan were spruced up in a nautical design for this year’s CEMEX Customer Convention themed, “Voyage.” Approximately 800 industry delegates composed of executives, trade partners, and retailers came to the event to be inspired by a successful entrepreneur and later on enjoy a night of song, revelry, and raffles that have become part of the convention tradition. This year's convention was indeed a celebration of excellence in all fronts.
A Celebration of World-class Products and Solutions
“We accomplished several achievements this year including CEMEX’s investment to the growth of the country. Everyone in this room is our partner. Working hand in hand, we will reach our goals together,” said Pedro Palomino, CEMEX Philippines country president in his presentation during the Customer Convention.
A most noteworthy feat of the company this year is the inauguration of the new finish mill at the Apo Cement Plant in Naga City, Cebu. The construction of the new mill generated 800 jobs for Filipinos and increased the production capacity of the cement plant.
“Businesses’ growth is driven by the improving economy and vice versa,” noted Palomino. “At CEMEX, we measure our achievements not only in terms of growing the business, but also by how much we positively contribute for the country’s future.”
“These accomplishments would not have been possible without the partnership of our stakeholders,” continued Palomino. “Hence, this convention is also our way of expressing gratitude for all the support and for being one with us in building a more competitive nation together.”
The CEMEX Customer Convention showcased the company’s milestones in its building solutions offerings such as cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, pavements, and housing.
A Celebration of National Pride and Ingenuity
World-renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue talked about Filipino pride and the importance of creativity. A native of Cebu, Cobonpue’s designs are known in the world for their trademark use of locally sourced materials that are lovingly and intricately handwoven into furniture pieces.
Owners of Cobonpue’s designs include Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and even members of royalty. In 2007, Time Magazine called him “rattan’s first virtuoso.”
At the Customer Convention, Cobonpue talked about taking inspiration from nature and imagining materials like abaca as furniture. He shared that the drive to continuously innovate is what propels him to create newer and purposeful products.
A Celebration of Filipino talent
Broadcast Journalist Atom Araullo and CEMEX Corporate Communications Analyst Grace Muncada hosted the program and took the attendees through the excitement of the afternoon with segments such as “Sailor’s Face Off” and “Complete the Lyrics.” Stand-up comedian Eri Neeman had the audience in stitches with his jokes, while a round of sing-along games and interactive charades added to the humor. To cap the evening, CEMEX assembled the finest in the Philippine music industry. Maestro Ryan Cayabyab played his classics on the piano and CEMEX’s very own talents sang their hearts out with him. Also, the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and Jet Pangan serenaded the Luzon clients in the City of Dreams with old and new OPM (Original Pilipino Music) songs; while Concert Queen Pops Fernandez and Hajji Alejandro wowed the crowd in Shangri-La Mactan for the Visayas and Mindanao customers with songs from famous local and international belters.
